Rudis pitches no-hitter for North Shore Tech

Sophomore right-hander Stephanie Rudis of Methuen pitched the first no-hitter of her career and the fourth in the history of the school as she dominated Northeast Regional of Wakefield, 12-0. Esposito does it all for red-hot Royals

WAKEFIELD | Joe Esposito rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for two more as Georgetown cruised to a 27-0 win over Northeast.

The junior quarterback rushed for 88 yards and passed for another 149. Esposito ignited the offense with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Nadjee Harrigan, with 13 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Hornets upset by Knights, 30-28

WAKEFIELD | Trap game. That phrase alone causes football coaches (at all levels) across the country to cringe. Manchester Essex traveled to Northeast Metro on Saturday, a game that looked like a total mismatch on paper. The Hornets were 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Small Conference while the Knights were 0-6 entering its first league game. The contest had trap game written all over it and unfortunately for the Hornets, that's exactly how it turned out.

Northeast tripped PMA, 2-1. Jessica Brasil tallied for the Panthers. Maggie Donohoe played an inspired game in the loss but had the misfortune of breaking her leg in the final seconds of the game. Jessica Biggart also played well.

Balanced Greater Lawrence wins big

WEST ANDOVER | There's a lot more to Greater Lawrence Tech football than Nate Adames.

True, he is posting monster numbers in the early going and went over the 1,000-yard mark yesterday in just five games, but Northeast targeted Adames effectively. The senior, running fluidly after twisting his knee last week, was stopped three times for negative yardage and only had one carry for over 10 yards.
