The Haverhill boys soccer team snuck out a close one as they beat Malden Catholic 2-1. Charlie Roche and Corey Pond tallied both goals and Will Menter assisted on Roche's goal. Luke McCartney had four saves to help the Hillies close out the season at 14-2.

Game-saver

After a Josh Voto penalty kick put the Central Catholic boys soccer team on top 12 minutes into the second half, it was up to netminder Connor Slein to preserve the slim 1-0 lead. He did just that as he had a great late backhanded save (one of his seven on the day) on a kick from just outside penalty area, sending Central to its fifth win of the year.

After playing with wooden bats all spring in the Catholic Conference, Malden Catholic is relishing the ping of the aluminum bats in the state tournament.

 The Lancers proved it again yesterday in a 13-8 win over Central Catholic in the Division 1 North quarterfinals at Merrimack College. That ended a superb 19-4 season for the Raiders.

Eagles qualify for postseason with win

The Eagles qualified for its 12th postseason appearance in the last 14 years under head coach John Roy as a trio of scorers each had three goals. John Jennings led the way for St. John's (9-1) with three goals and three assists, Garrett Campbell had three goals and two helpers, and Will Duryea also had a hat trick and contributed one assist. Mark Scalise (4 assists) and Jon Siderewicz also had goals, while goalkeeper Tyler Cash had 12 saves.

Felder's heroics lift St. John's Prep basketball to biggest win

DANVERS -- It's over.

St. John's Prep's opening-game postseason jinx -- and all the negativity that goes with it -- was wiped out here last night.

Led by sophomore point guard Brendon Felder, who took charge of the game when the Eagles had to have it down the stretch, St. John's Prep shaded Malden Catholic, 59-57, in a tense and electrifying Division 1 preliminary round game. The Prep now moves on to play No. 3 seed Everett (17-1) on the road tomorrow night.

O'Connell, St. John's Prep on fire

The St. John's Prep basketball team couldn't be blamed for sleepwalking in the first quarter last night while playing its fourth game in six days.

"But we answered the ring of the bell," Prep coach Dan Letarte said after the Eagles overcame a 16-point deficit and took out Malden Catholic, 75-66, on the road. St. John's won all four games in the six-day span and is now 9-5.

Prep wrestlers capture 10th straight CC title

Opposing schools wouldn't mind it if St. John's Prep moved out of the Catholic Conference for a while. The Eagles are just too tough to beat.

Making good use of its depth, St. John's Prep handled Malden Catholic, 54-18, to win its 10th straight Catholic Conference title. The Eagles have won 43 in a row in the conference and they're 21-5 overall this season.

Third period rally by MC ties St. John's Prep

The St. John's Prep hockey team got off to a very fast start last night | but in the end, that was evened out by an equally strong finish by Malden Catholic.

The end result was a hard-fought 3-3 tie between the two Catholic Conference rivals before a large crowd at the Ristuccia Memorial Arena.
