Peabody | 4 |
When Lowell scored two consecutive goals in the second half to erase a two-goal deficit, Peabody interim girls soccer coach Dennis Desroches wasn't surprised.
Peabody needed two overtimes to dispose of Lowell last year, but Erika Digiacomo made sure overtime didn't enter the equation last night, netting the game-winner with just 30 seconds to play for a 4-3 Tanner victory.
"I'm not surprised (it was close) because Lowell has a very strong athletic program, and the population in that high school I think doubles ours," Desroches said. "They definitely have athletes and I expected a strong game."
Alyssa Manoogian had one goal and two assists, including the set-up of Digiacomo late in the game. Digiacomo finished with a pair of goals, Emily Manoogian had one, and Caitlin Pinkham contributed one assist.
Peabody will host Winchester, a penalty-kick winner over Woburn, on Monday (5 p.m.) in the quarterfinals. Stephanie Fodera and Angela Ellison played well defensively for the Tanners.
