Sean McQuillan scored in the 18th minute and Andover never looked back in its 1-0 win over Central Catholic.

"The game was very tight and really intense," said coach Jim Saalfrank of Methuen. "It was a playoff caliber game. It wasn't a battle for the Merrimack Valley championship, but beating Central helps us out. It's two points closer to the title."

McQuillian's goal was assisted by Cam Bartley. Josh Chevalier was in the goal for Andover and had six saves on the night.

Coach Saalfrank said that Pat Morrow played an outstanding game on defense through the second half.

"It was an entire team effort on both offense and defense."

"It was the most high paced, high energy game I had seen from any MVC game this year," said Central Catholic coach Shawn Chase. "Both teams were really determined to win the game. The kids had a lot of heart."

Central's goalie Robert Petrosillo had seven saves.

Andover (7-4-3) has its next game at Somerville this Thursday at 6 p.m. and Central Catholic (3-4-7) has its next game at Haverhill this Thursday at 7 p.m.
