WEST ANDOVER — Pedro Camilo and his Greater Lawrence squad had one primary goal heading into yesterday’s contest.

“We wanted to come out flying,” said Camilo. “We wanted to come out hard, then just keep going from there.”

It’s safe to say the Reggies did not let up.

The red-hot Greater Lawrence defense delivered its most dominant performance to date, allowing just 7 yards of total offense for the entire game, and the Joey Pizzuto-led offense once again ran wild as the scorching Reggies pounded Greater Lowell 40-0 yesterday afternoon.

“Any time you can shut a team out, it’s big,” said Reggies head coach Tony Sarkis. “That’s the second time we have posted a zero on the scoreboard in three weeks, and that just pumps the defense up that much more. We are thrilled about that.”

Greater Lawrence simply smothered the overmatched Gryphon offense. The Reggies held Greater Lowell to negitive-17 yards rushing for the entire game, allowing  just three rushes for gains, the longest a 4-yard plunge.

When the Gryphons went to the air, it was just as ugly. The Reggies surrendered only three completions for 24 yards, and intercepted three passes.

Lenny Paulino led the Reggies, making five tackles and picking off a pass, while John Augusta added four tackles and Marcos Ortiz made three stops.

Yamarco Guzman and Jonathan Montero each added an interception for a Reggies defense that held Greater Lowell to negitive-4 yards total in the first half before sending the starters to the bench in favor of backups for the entire second half.

Greater Lawrence wasted no time putting the game away on the other side of the ball. After running just 11 plays, the Reggies had already scored four touchdowns with 8:08 left in the second quarter.

Prolific back Pizzuto needed only 17 carries to tally 158 yards rushing — an average of 9.3 yards a carry — and three touchdowns. Those all came in the first half, as he rested with most of the starters after the half.

Ortiz was even more efficient, carrying just four times for exactly 100 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown scamper in which he used some fancy footwork the stay in bounds down the sidelines. Jean Carlos Gomez needed to throw the ball just once, a 14-yard touchdown to Jonathan Montero.

Greater Lawrence has now outscored opponents 81-6 over its past three games, including a shutout of South Boston two weeks ago and allowing a single score to Manchester Essex last week. That after the Reggies dropped their opener 28-0.

“We’re getting it done right now,” said Ortiz. “We’re doing all the right things, and we know that we can’t slack off.”
