Odds and ends: Junior Marielle Elie returns from a knee injury that kept her out all of last year. She played well for Central her freshman year. ... Although Central has ample experience, its hopes may lie with how much three freshmen and three sophomores | all newcomers | can contribute. ... Freshman Mikayla Hickey of Salem is ranked among the top 40 players in the East in her age-group.

Coach Anne Marinaro (4th year, 38-16-5): "We have a good nucleus coming back with seven starters. Ashley Evangelista is clearly a go-to player for us. She's got great work ethic and coachability, and there's a very good team around her. She'll get a lot of hype, but we have some strong, strong players on our team. I think Gia O'Connor is one of the best in the league. We do have a couple of weak points, and we've adjusted our preseason so that we could fine-tune and tweak the team to help them."
