NASHUA, N.H. — Pinkerton's game plan was right on target, but it still wasn't quite enough to knock off No. 1 seed Bishop Guertin in the Division 1 boys lacrosse semifinals last night.
The Astros, who lost to Guertin 15-6 in the regular season, held the Cardinals in check almost the entire game before falling 8-4.
"Our goal was to hold Bishop Guertin to nine of fewer goals and score at least 10," said Pinkerton coach Brian O'Reilly. "We got one of those goals, but not the other.
"We did an excellent job on defense. I thought Pierce (Connal) did a very good job in net. But we could not get enough offense. We spent the whole game with the ball in our defensive zone, and we never had the ball."
Pinkerton held a 2-1 lead after the first quarter but Bishop Guertin took command with five goals in the second period — the only quarter it scored more than once.
Mike Auger score two of Pinkerton's goals and Conor McCarthy and Tom Auger also scored and Pearce Connal made 13 saves in goal.
The Astros completed their season at 14-5 while Guertin advances to the title game with a 17-1 record.
Goals: P — Mike Auger 2, Conor McCarthy, Tom Auger
