With nothing but a good feeling supporting the move, North Reading head coach Rusty Russell swapped his captains on the left side of the infield, moving Alex Alois to third base and Jenn Shields to shortstop.
"I really don't know what I saw (to come up with the shift), and I told the two girls that I had a feeling it would work," Russell explained. "We had been middling around, winning one and losing one, but now we're starting to put it together and that move has really helped."
The Hornets registered their fifth straight victory yesterday, felling North Andover, 4-1. Moise had two hits and an RBI in the game while leadoff hitter Shields also plated a run. Kirsten Morrison also came up big in North Reading's 16-hit attack, adding three hits and an RBI.
Casey Chapman had what Russell termed "her best outing of the year," tossing a five-hitter as the Scarlet Knights didn't threaten to score until breaking up the shutout in the seventh inning on freshman Haley Kosheff's run-scoring hit.
