Odds and ends: Last year's Scarlet Knights squad was the second to win a sectional title, and 21 wins is the most by a North Andover team. ... With 26 goals, Lauren Gaffny was second in the region in scoring last year. ... Sophomore Candace Waldie didn't play field hockey as a freshman but has tremendous potential and could be an impact player. ... Waldie, letterman Krissy Whitley and senior Kristen O'Connor, who is in just her second year with the sport, were starters for the Division 2 state finalist softball team last spring. ... New assistant Courtney Breen is a '97 graduate of North Andover and assisted at St. Anselm College the last two years. ... Krissy Whitley scored twice as North Andover blanked Triton, 3-0, in its opener.

Coach Dianne Freiermuth (15th year, 125-84-66): "I think we can build on the success (40-4-2 the last two years) we've had. We have a core group of five seniors we can build around and we have some excellent athletes. Plus, we have some players coming up from a very good JV team (17-1-1) who can help us. We'll miss (graduated All-Scholastic) Liz Day a lot, but I think we have a lot of players who can score."
