There was a reason Winchester finished the season 8-6-4 before facing Triton in the first round of the state tournament. The Middlesex League host to teams like Stoneham, Lexington and Woburn qualified six teams for the state tournament, and Winchester was not shy about establishing its style of play on the game right away, going up 4-0 at the end of the first half. The game eventually finished 4-1.

Kyle Devenish got the lone Triton goal in the second half from Collin Smith off a free kick, but that was all the offense the Vikes could muster.

"They are a big, physical team that came out flying, and before we knew, bang, bang, bang, Winchester was up 4-0," said Triton coach Brad Smith. "They were an excellent team from an excellent league and played like it.

"This was by far one of the more challenging seasons. However, all 12 of our seniors throughout all the difficult times stayed focused and helped us come together as a team," Smith said. "There were no distractions and no individual selfishness on our team, which provided a great example to our younger guys."
