In consolation games, Haverhill outlasted Pelham 44-25 and Timberlane stifled Alvirne 44-30 despite missing standout University of Maine recruit Sam Wheeler, who was out sick.
Haverhill pulled away from Pelham with a 10-2 advantage in the third quarter behind leading scorer and all-tourney pick Michelle Stanley, who scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half. Melissa Ganem had seven points and was tough on the boards for the Hillies (3-4).
Briana Szidat had 11 points for Pelham, which may have set a tourney record with seven players scoring two points.
Timberlane (3-4) got a strong game from Kristin Crotts, who led all scorers with 15 points, and rode a tough defense that forced 15 Alvirne turnovers and blocked five shots in a dominating second half (26-15). Moreover, the Owls held the Purcell sisters, Deanna and Amanda, to 7 and 5 points, respectively, after they had combined for 39 points in Alvirne's previous game.
"Kristin (Crotts) has the opportunity to take over like this every game," said Timberlane coach Bruce Johnson.
