Team | 1st | 2nd | Final |
---|---|---|---|
North Reading | 1 | 1 | 2 |
Triton | 0 | 1 | 1 |
North Reading field hockey did not score a goal in its first seven games. But the Hornets found the back of the net twice against Triton to win 2-1 and improve to 1-4-3. It was the Hornets' first win since Sept. 27, 2007, snapping a 0-26-9 streak.
"Oh, my God that what we've been working for," said North Reading coach Lindsay Breen, who endured a winless season with Lawrence last fall. "We worked it up the field. Everyone played well — the goalie all the way up to the forwards. It was tight up until the last minute."
Melanie Powers and Jen Bash each scored goals to give North Reading a 2-0 lead.
Triton made it exciting, scoring with five minutes left.
"We told our defense to stay steady and our forwards to drive it up the right wing," Breen said.
Kiara Zani recorded 15 saves.

Let me be the first to congratulate the Hornets. I know how hapy the team was two years ago with that win, so I'm sure there is lots of celebrating. All the hard work has paid off. Keep up the good work!!!!! I know there are more wins for this team this season
