For the first time in eight years, North Andover has captured the CAL championship.
With last night's 1-0 win over Newburyport, the Knights dethroned traditional power, Masconomet, which has dominated the league for much of the past eight seasons. Gareth Dudney tallied the only goal of the game.
"This is a great feeling," said head coach Bill Tarbox. "Newburyport needed to win to qualify for the tournament, so there was a lot at stake on both sides. To finally capture this is great for the players. There was obviously a lot of excitement after the game."
Tarbox's younger son, Fred, won the MVC Small championship as Haverhill's girls coach.
