Greater Lawrence running back and 2007 Eagle-Tribune Offensive Player of the Year Nate Adames highlights a group of local players selected to the North squad of the 30th Annual Shriners Football Classic.
Adames led the Reggies to a 19-6 victory over East Boston in the Division 3A Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. He finished the season with 2,647 yards, becoming the first area back to top 2,000 yards since the Eagle-Tribune began keeping records in 1997.
Two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star Andover quarterback Mike Pierce was selected after setting seven single-season or career Andover records, including passing yards (2,179) and touchdown passes (20) in a season. Georgetown receiver/defensive back Brandon Wade, also a two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star, had 31 tackles and 407 receiving yards last season.
Central Catholic's Mike Leavitt, who returned from a hamstring injury to rush for 936 yards and 10 touchdowns in only eight games, was also named to the team along with Dartmouth-bound Brooks offensive tackle Pat Lahey of North Andover and St. John's Prep running back and North Reading resident Derek Coppola.
The game will be played on June 20 at 7 p.m. at Bentley College.
