Pentucket scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away and earn a 27-21 win over Winthrop in both team's season opener.
Trailing 13-7 at the half, the Sachems (1-0) outscored their opponent 20-8 in the final 22 minutes.
Andrew Melone rushed for two second-half touchdowns of 7 and 33 yards, and Gus Flaherty hit Justin Snow on a 7-yard pass to make it a 27-13 game midway through the fourth. Winthrop would score later in the quarter to make it a one-score game, but the Sachems held on.
Flaherty threw for two TD passes. He connected with Spencer Pacy on a 60-yard bomb for the Sachems' first TD in the second quarter.
Pentucket is at Amesbury Friday at 7 p.m.
