Georgetown holds off Coyle-Cassidy late

GEORGETOWN - With a two-score lead late in the third quarter, Georgetown football looked set to pull away from Coyle-Cassidy, but after a fourth quarter interception made things interesting, the Royals showed resiliency to put the game away.

Georgetown got a stop and drove down the field to score late to help seal a 19-6 victory over Coyle-Cassidy Friday night. The win got the Royals back to .500 at 2-2 on the season.

Though it was senior captain Zach Beauvais who iced the game in the fourth, taking a pass in the flat from senior quarterback Tommy Long and turning it upfield down the sideline for a 39-yard score, the game-winner came from two big plays in quick succession in the second quarter.

Long stepped up in the pocket with time in the pocket and delivered a ball down the middle that junior Hunter Lane yanked out of the air over a defender for a big gain. The pair then hooked up again for about a 10-yard score to make it 13-0 before halftime.

The dynamic duo also combined for the first score of the game on the team's first drive. Long hit lane for a 10-yard pass in the back of the end zone to get it going for the Royals.

Lane finished with 82 receiving yards and two scores, while Long was 6-of-12 for 121 yards and three scores but also had two interceptions. On the ground, senior captain Matt D'Amato pounded away all day with 62 yards on 12 carries while Beauvais chipped in 17 on six.
