METHUEN — With a strong group of returning starters, Methuen volleyball was optimistic about this fall.

Jacqueline Cassidy, Haley McDonnell, Katelyn Hulme, Cristina Lucas and Julia McCoy are talented players. The addition of a superb transfer, though, put the Rangers over the top.
Abby Sullivan, a 6-foot-2 junior from North Middlesex Regional, has made an immediate impact.
In Tuesday's 3-0 win over Everett, Sullivan had 11 kills and eight blocks as the Rangers improved to 10-4. That's quite an improvement from an 11-11 2015 campaign. The win clinched a return to the state tourney. The Rangers had an impressive eight-year tourney run then didn't make it in 2014 and 2015.

"We knew going into the season with Sullivan and the returners, we could do a lot," said Methuen coach Matt Twomey. "We've played a lot of good MVC teams close. We're not just happy making the tourney."
Sullivan, a Lowell Sun All-Star as a sophomore, has had double-digit kills every match.

Twomey said, "From the very first day she has just impressed us. We knew had to move some people around. She's become part of our family."
