It was a big day for Pentucket at the Eastern Mass. cross country meets at Wrentham Saturday.

The Pentucket boys finished fourth in the Division 5 meet, qualifying for next week’s All-State Meet at Gardner for the second straight year and the Pentucket girls also came in fourth.

“We’ve gone back as far as we can and we don’t know if the (Pentucket) boys and girls have ever made it in the same year,” said Pentucket boys coach Darrel Cox. “I don’t think either one of us were expecting it because we’re so young.”

That’s particularly true of the Sachem boys, who were led by junior Nick Murphy, who finished eighth despite not having one of his best races. Three freshmen were next, led by Sam Stys in 20th and David Gangemi and Peter Lopata in 33rd and 34th. Sophomores Anthony Accardi and Will Coppola were next.

For the Sachem girls, junior Siobhan O’Keefe led the way, in 15th, with senior Vivian Burke in 28th.

RAIDERS’ GIRLS QUALIFY

Senior Kierstin Lock came in 17th to lead Central Catholic’s girls to fourth in Division 2 and a ticket to the All-State meet. Junior Grace McDowell was next, in 24th and Kathryn Montgomery was 32nd.

In Division 2 boys, Dan Kenney had his best race of the season, taking 10th overall, to lead North Andover to seventh. Central, led by Evan Fagan in eighth, was 11th.

ANDOVER: NEAR MISS

The Andover girls finished fifth in the Eastern Mass. Division 1 meet and just missed getting a wild card to the All-State meet when the sixth-place team, Peabody, was awarded the slot because of a lower accumulated time.

On the bright side for the Warriors, sophomore Sarah Cain and junior Grace O’Hara qualified for All-State as individuals with their 15th and 20th-place finishes.

Haverhill senior Jenna Solimine led the local runners by placing 11th in 19:53.54 on the 5K Wrentham course.

On the boys side, Andover’s Devin Connell just missed qualifying for All-State despite leading all locals in the Division 1 boys meet with his 25th-place finish. Methuen was the highest Division 1 local team, finishing ninth. Sam Cook was the first Ranger to finish.
