North Reading got two runs in the bottom of the second inning, and rode the arm of Greg Johnson to a 5-1 victory over Lynnfield to win the Division 3 North regional championship.
Johnson went the distance on the mound, striking out four while only allowing four hits. Jared Valade had a triple, an RBI and scored three of his team's runs. Patrick Driscoll went 2 for 3, and John Merullo went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Hornets will play the winner of the East Bridgewater vs. Old Rochester game which is Sunday at 11 a.m. at Wheaton College.
The state semifinal is scheduled for Tuesday, time and location are TBA.
