LYNNFIELD — With Pentucket leading by one going into the bottom of the seventh, the skies opened up, prompting a brief rain delay. When the game resumed 10 minutes later, the Sachems couldn't get an out and wound up losing 6-5 on a walk-off single in Sunday's Division 3 North first round game.
Lynnfield took an early 1-0 lead in the third, and after Pentucket came back with two runs in the top of the fourth, responded with two more in the bottom of the fourth and then another in the fifth to make it 4-2. Pentucket rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth, however, and looked set to advance before things turned south in the seventh.
Cam Wolbach led the Sachems by going 3 for 4 with a run and three RBIs, including a two-run single in the fourth and a run-scoring single to spark the sixth inning rally, and Kiernan Haley also went 2 for 4 with two runs. The rest of the team, however, went 0 for 17 on the day.
Pentucket finishes the season at 13-9, while Lynnfield advances to play Boston Latin Academy in the North quarterfinal on Monday.
