LYNN- The Pentucket Regional High School baseball team fell to the Lynnfield Pioneers 5-3 in the Pitching For Pete, Strikeout ALS Tournament at Fraser Field in Lynn.

“We got to come out and have a great pregame, bring a lot of energy right from the start, or one of these games it’s going to come back and bite us,” said Pentucket head coach Tom L'italien following a come from behind victory over Georgetown earlier in the month. “In two games now we’ve fought back and won in extra innings but in both games we didn’t start well. We left guys on base and we didn’t deliver in the clutch early in those games.”

The Sachems again followed that same script with another slow start at out of the gate against Lynnfield. Through the games first four innings the team’s batters struck out seven times.

“They’re just more engaged than us right now,” coach L’Italien told his team during the game, as the Sachems were held scoreless through six innings.

Pentucket attempted to rally late in the seventh inning, scoring all three of its runs. Ryan Depaolo knocked in Jake Deziel on an RBI double, Kiernan Haley drove in Travis Bounsy with an RBI single, and Cam Wolbach brought home Depaolo on a sacrifice fly to center.

The comeback attempt ultimately came up short though. The Pioneers would get the third and final out on a strikeout, making it too little too late for the Sachems.

One bright spot in the loss however was pitcher Connor O’Neil. O’Neil threw 91 pitches with four strikeouts and no walks on the day. He only allowed four Lynnfield hits as well.

Next up for Pentucket will be a May 17 matchup against North Reading, the leader in the Cape Ann League Kinney Division at 12-1.
