Candidates in all grades: 48

Captains: Frank Conway, Greg DelGuidice

Returning leaders: Greg DelGuidice, .349 avg.; Michael Johnson, .270 avg. ...  2-4 on mound; Frank Conway, .294 avg.; Jason Buco, .368 avg., 10 runs; Brad Forgetta, .333 avg.

Assistants: John Strobel, varsity assistant; Willie Waters, JV; Jon McLaughlin, JV assistant

Opener: Defeated Pingree, 10-8, Wednesday

Odds and ends: The good news for Brooks is that it graduated zero senior starters from a team that won two of its last four games. ... The bad news is that Andrew Ruiz-Henriquez, who hit .295 and started at shortstop, moved on to Andover High. ... Looking for a youth movement, freshman Dan Conway of Andover and sophomore Matt Jeremiah should see the bulk of the time at second and short, respectively. Conway's older brother Frank is the lead candidate behind the plate but could be moved elsewhere if need be.

Coach John Fahey (4th year, 20-24-1): "We were very young last year. Our pitching is going to be our strength with (Michael) Johnson and (Brad) Forgetta bringing it from the left side. The 10 hits in the opener was really nice to see, because I think we're going to play pretty good defense. I definitely like this group."
