A strong sense of satisfaction is currently blanketing the North Shore Tech baseball program right now. It's hard to blame the Bulldogs for feeling good after what they accomplished this weekend.
Hosting its first tournament | The Bulldog Classic | North Shore Tech qualified for the state tournament, swept the bracket for the inaugural championship, and defeated a Commonwealth Conference Large program for just the second time in school history.
North Shore Tech defeated Greater Lawrence, 6-5, yesterday in the final, just one day after pounding Minuteman, 14-2, in the tournament opener.
"It was a good day," North Shore Tech coach John Delaney said. "We were out of the state tournament last year when we missed it by a game. Now we're back in and the kids are all happy. And that was big to beat Greater Lawrence. We had lost two games in a row before the tournament and we were pressing too much."
Zack Newman had a dynamite weekend for the Bulldogs, going 1 for 1 in the opener with three RBIs and adding three hits in the title-clincher. Ben Dora got the win in the championship game with six solid innings and Ryan Mahan locked the victory down with a save.
Andrew Rainville drove in a pair of runs in each game and played well at shortstop, while sophomore David St. Pierre picked up the win in the first game. North Shore Tech is now 10-7 with one game remaining against Rockport.
