DRACUT — Winning is the cure for any slumping sports team. For Lawrence, Friday's 41-20 rout of Dracut came as the much needed antibiotic the Lancers needed to get their season back on track.

It was a three-week skid for coach Mike Yameen and his squad. The Lancers had lost their previous two games by a combined eight points.

"Its been a very rough three weeks. The guys have had some very emotional practices, but they've worked hard," said Yameen. "I just said to them that you can't look behind you; you have to always continue forward."

The emotion was palpable on the Lancer sideline. If given the opportunity, the Lancers usually defer to the second half on the coin toss. This was not the case yesterday. Defensive captain David Morales told the referee that his team wanted the ball first, and, just 17 seconds later, the Lancers were on the board.

Junior back Daryll Munoz took the handoff from Ismael Jenkins and ran untouched 67 yards to the house on the first play from scrimmage. The play set the tone of the game, and was an early look at how efficient the Lancers offense would be.

In just the first quarter, Lawrence rushed for 189 yards and scored on each of its four possessions. The Lancers scored touchdowns on their first five possessions, and jumped out to a 34-0 lead before Dracut could even blink.

Angel Abreu and Daryl Munoz have been asked to shoulder most of the running load with Kenny Richards forced to the sidelines with an injury. The two were featured again, and have given coach Yameen peace of mind in a season riddled by key injuries.

"We lost Kenny Richards who is one of the better players in the league," said Yameen. "For Darryl and Angel to come in, both juniors, and pick up the slack; its been comforting."

It was another fantastic day on defense for Morales. The senior was in on more than a half dozen tackles, many of the bone-crunching variety. Ronny Pena also had himself a night. The sophomore safety picked off Dracut quarterback Thomas Crowley twice, and nearly returned one for a touchdown.

The Lancers are now back to .500 football after the win, as Dracut is still searching for their first win of the season.

Lawrence faces North Andover next Friday night.
