When Rob Pike said "We ran the ball real well tonight," the Salem coach wasn't being superfluous.

With senior Charles Sibanda doing the bulk of the ground damage, the Blue Devils remained tied atop New Hampshire's South conference with a convincing 47-19 road victory over Portsmouth.

Sibanda, who entered the day third in the area with 705 rushing yards, erupted for 180 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 attempts. His 12.9 yards per attempt was far better than the 9 yards he averaged his first seven games. As a team, Salem (6-2) ran for 460 yards on 45 carries.

Doug Maroun scored first for Salem on a 14-yard, first-quarter run before Sibanda took over. The running back scored on 4-yarder in the first quarter before igniting for the hat trick in the second quarter on runs of 6, 56 and 24 yards

"We played very well," Pike said. "The offensive line was very good, and defensively, we made stops when we had to."

The Blue Devils capped their night with a pair of scores in the third quarter when Adam Maroun returned an interception 42 yards before Nick Shumski ran for another from 55 yards out.
