No. 8 Wellesley beat No. 25 Triton in the preliminary round of the Division 2 East Tournament. Craig White and Caleb Woodworth scored one goal each for the Vikings (8-9). Chris LeSage had an assist. Carson True earned the praise of Vikings coach Donna Andersen for his work in goal.

"My goalie stood nicely in the face of a lot of pressure," Andersen said. "When we head a little bit south in the tournament, those teams have well-established programs. They're high in numbers and high in quality players. We may be OK in the Cape Ann League, but we still need to keep building our program."

Triton has qualified for the state tournament three of the four years since its inception as a varsity program. The Vikings successfully made the jump from CAL's Division 2 to Division 1 this season.

"I think we rose to the challenge," Andersen said. "We held our own. Each year we make little steps forward. But with each step, it gets a little more challenging. We'll keep plugging away."
