DERRY — Chace Spears and Matt Tritto combined on a four-hit shutout and Matt Diskin supplied the offense Friday to lift Pinkerton to a pivotal 3-0 shutout of Exeter.
The victory boosted the Astros to 15-4 and assured therm the No. 1 seed for the Division 1 tournament, the pairings for which will be announced Monday. Exeter dropped to 12-6.
Spears was on target frm the start for Pinkerton, throwing 56 strikes in 92 pitches while striking out four and allowing just three hits in 5 2/3 innings. Trito gave up just one hit in one and a third innings.
Losing pitcher Jake Randolph was nearly as effective for Exeter, but he couldn't solve Diskin, who was 2 for 2 with a walk, had two doubles, knoocked in two runs and scored one. Riley Cahill and Spears both had base hits and scored once. Kyle Albertelli was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
