Rockport (3-5) junior ace Tia Nelson didn't hurl another no-hitter but the Vikings will take the effort. Nelson held North Andover (5-2)-a Division 2 North finalist last spring-to five hits and struck out five as the Vikings beat the Knights for the first time in Rockport softball history.
"It's a huge win," said Rockport head coach Diane Parisi, "they have a very strong program. To knock them off in a game like this is a great win. After yesterday (Nelson no-hit Newburyport in a 8-0 win), they realized working together as a team is clicking. Hopefully we'll carry it into Monday (at Notre Dame of Lawrence)."
A captain, Nelson also had two triples and scored the first Rockport run. She escaped a bases-loaded, one out jam in the sixth unscathed. "Tia is so focused, she's stepping on the mound ready to go," Parisi noted. "She's throwing all her pitches for strikes and being a team leader."
Second baseman Kaitlyn Keough had a hit, first baseman Laura Donnelly had a single and run scored while shortstop Kelsey Keough scored a run. Right fielder Chyanne Stowell made a heads up play as she threw a runner out at first.
