A pair of North Andover residents won New England Prep titles to lead Brooks to a second-place finish. Forty-six teams scored. Exeter won with 233 points and Brooks, the defending champs, scored 180.
Second-seeded Jake Gottfried went 4-0 with two pins to win with the 195-pound crown for the Green and White. The final was a comeback 6-5 thriller.
"He went to camp over the summer and made big improvements," said coach Alex Konovalchik. "He worked hard on his technique.
Jake Gottfried was the No. 2 seed and beat the No. 4 seed in the finals. He notched four wins with two pins. He went to camp over the summer and made a bigimprovments. Worked hard on technique. They can't ride him he has a terrific leg hook reversal."
Top-seeded heavyweight Owen Rosenberger like Gottfried is a North Andoverite who went 4-0 with a pair of pins to earn the gold. He won the title match 8-1.
Konovalchik said, "They've been workout partners and made themselves better. Owen shoots an excellent low single leg attack."
Of his clubs performance, Konovalchik said, "We were trying to make a run for a repeat. We're disappointed that we didn't do it. But Exeter is a terrif program and a much bigger school. It was a good showing for us. We're thrilled with a second-place finish."
