Odds and ends: Doug Schultz and Nick Gregsak combined to go 8-4 on the Derry Legion team last summer. ... The 12 wins last year were the most for Pinkerton since 2000 (15-4). ... Pinkerton last won a state baseball title in 1986, with their last finals appearance in 1995. ... At 6-foot-6 and only 15-years-old, Zach Mathieu, a catcher his whole life, will be converted to first base this spring. "That is, if we can find a uniform that fits him," joked coach Ron Manseau.

Coach Ron Manseau (26th year, 221-198): "I'm excited, this is a great bunch of kids with plenty of potential. We have some pitching depth, and we should play pretty good defense. Schultz and Gregsak are coming off great Legion seasons. We have some talent, and the guys are working hard."
