SALEM, N.H. — Hotshot freshman Lauren Thibodeau upset defending champion Chelsea Sedlar from Bishop Guertin to capture the girls state golf title Saturday at Campbell’s Scottish Highlands.
The ninth grader from Hampstead had to be on top of her game as Sedlar, a senior from Merrimack, didn’t make it easy on her.
Sedlar fired an even-par 71 while Thibodeau went one under in a marvelous performance.
It was tied through the front nine but Thibodeau gained two strokes with a birdie 2 on the 11th hole. She bogeyed the 14th whole and it was all tied. The difference was she had a par on 17 while Sedlar bogied the hole.
It’s been quite a year for Thibodeau. She had a memorable summer including tying for second at the State Women’s Open.
Third place in the 15-golfer field Saturday was St. Thomas’ Sara Feith with an 81. Pinkerton freshman Erin Dellorusso was fifth with an 86 and Astro teammate senior Kaitlyn Lutinski was seventh with an 87.
