Carlos O'Donnell had a breakout game, scoring 26 points and picking off six rebounds, and teammate Allen Williamson added 25 points and 14 boards to lead Pingree School to an 83-79 opening round victory over Hamden (Conn.) Hall yesterday in the Class D NEPSAC basketball tournament at Seekonk.
O'Donnell, a senior point guard from Salem, and 1,000-point club member Williamson, a junior forward from Saugus, combined for 51 points as a tandem, helping Pingree to a 24-7 overall record.
Pingree, the Eastern Independent League champion, will face either Beaver Country Day or Hyde School of Woodstock, Conn. in tomorrow's semifinals.
Lamarre Rey, a junior guard from Medford, put up 13 points and three steals for Pingree.
"Carlos was almost unstoppable. He really stepped up for us," Pingree coach Steve Gibbs said. "I don't know if I've seen him play better. He really came to play."
Pingree jumped out to a 41-30 halfime and was in command the rest of the way.
