After two tough days at the Blue Devil Classic, Nick Currier made sure his squad wasn't going to have a third.
Currier recorded his first hat trick of the season to lead Pinkerton to a 6-4 win over Oyster River.
The junior opened the scoring only 39 seconds into play when he found a loose puck and flipped it past the goalie. Then, three minutes later he added his second tally of the contest with assists going to Teddy McCarran and Jason Carace. The Astros added a third goal less than a minute after that when Bobby Meskell scored on an assist from McCarran.
"We got a very good start," said coach Casey Kesselring. "But we took too many penalties and had to battle at the end."
Oyster River tied the game 3-3 early in the third. But Currier struck back with his third goal of the day, and goals by Doug Schultz and Mitch Grandoff put the game on ice.
Pinkerton once again struggled with penalties (11 for the game), but Currier's breakout game was enough to overcome that.
