Paul Sughrue may be behind schedule a bit, but he showed that he's in top form yesterday at the Framingham Tournament yesterday.

Missing from the lineup for several meets with minor injuries, Sughrue won the 132-pound weight class in convincing fashion, defeating No. 1 seed and returning New England placer Johnny Do of Framingham 12-7 in the finals. For his performance, Sughrue was named the tourney Outstanding Wrestler.

Sughrue helped spark Methuen to second place overall, placing eight wrestlers on the way to 223 points, 20 behind champion Lincoln-Sudbury.

Sughrue improved to 9-0 and, like last year, was the second part of a one-two punch with junior Christian Monserrat, who improved to 16-0 while winning the 126-pound crown. Monserrat has never lost in the regular season.

Giving the Rangers a third crown was improving junior Mike Golio, who took top honors at 220 pounds and is now 18-1 on the year. Finishing second were freshman Billy Wehring at 106 and Jimmy Summa at 145. Wehring's loss in the finals was to returning New England placer Ben Defronzo and was his first setback of the year.

"Overall it was a great tournament for us," said Methuen coach Bill James. "Our experienced guys wrestled well and we had a lot of solid performances from our newer wrestlers. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are headed in the right direction."
