After being on the receiving end on a No. 15 vs. No. 2 first-round shocker last year, Salem High (13th) was looking to re-pay the favor to No. 4 Nashua South.
And the gritty Blue Devils nearly pulled it off, falling in overtime of the Division 1 playoff opener, 59-55.
"We had the ball with the score tied in regulation and ran down the last 90 seconds," said Salem coach Rob McLaughlin. "We got an open look and just missed it."
Salem got 13 from senior sharpshooter Andrew Ruffen. Jack Hartman chipped in nine, and Steve Nugent added eight.
"Our seniors stepped up huge," added McLaughlin.
