For three quarters, the Gloucester girls basketball team played evenly with Dover-Sherborn in the Mustang Classic Holiday Tournament Final at Marian. The teams were tied 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter, but foul trouble caught up with the Fishermen in the final frame as the Raiders eventually prevailed, 66-47.

"We got into serious foul trouble, we had five people with four fouls," said Gloucester head coach Jim Flanagan. "Dover-Sherborn made 12 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter. The game just got really sloppy in the fourth quarter and they hit their free throws."

Playing without senior guard Jill Lukegord, who rolled her ankle Thursday in Gloucester's win over host Marian, the Fishermen (3-2) had a strong performance from junior guard Lindsey Rogers (14 points). Junior center Alicia Unis was a force defensively as she pulled down 15 rebounds and had five steals along with contributing five points.

"We committed too many fouls away from the basket where they're not a scoring threat," Flanagan noted. "We put them at the free throw line too much (the Raiders made 18 free throws in the game)."

Other Gloucester standouts included sophomore forward Alexandra Verga (10 points), sophomore guard Olivia Lufkin (10 points) and freshman guard Hannah Cain (8 points).

Flanagan pointed out that "Cain picked up her fourth foul early in the fourth quarter and as a result, we stopped moving the basketball and weren't going to the rim like earlier off the fast break. It was frustrating, we played good defense and we wouldn't turn that into baskets."

Gloucester is off until the New Year, as it will next host Amesbury in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
