What looked to be billed as a game between potentially the two best teams in the Cape Ann League turned into be quite a one-sided affair with Wilmington routing Triton, 5-1.
Up 1-0 after an evenly played first period, Wilmington slammed the door on the Vikings by netting four goals in the second period. Cam Robinson scored the lone goal for the Vikes in the period, set up nicely by Brandon Middleton.
"We weren't properly prepared for Wilmington," said Triton coach Kevin Dodier, owning up to the problems that plagued the Vikings. "They played extremely physical, well coached, and we just couldn't match their intensity."
Much of went wrong for the Vikings happened their own defensive zone, where the Wildcat players were able to roam too freely unmarked.
"We were struggling to pick up guys, and that starts with our staff. We need to make sure our guys understand their coverage," Dodier explained. "Right now we need to just take this game for what it is worth and get ready to prepare for Pentucket next Saturday."
Dodier did praise the play of Mike Msyliwy and Brice Linehan, who he said played hard all game for the Vikings.
