Goffstown | 55 |
The Goffstown, N.H., High boys basketball team was hoping to be competitive against Swampscott in the first round of the Tanner City Holiday Tournament in Peabody last night. Goffstown never would have imagined its entire team would be outscored by two Swampscott players, but that's precisely what happened.
John Beaulieu had his best game of the season, hitting seven 3-pointers on the way to 34 points, and Craig Rodenstein added 27 as the Big Blue blew out the New Hampshire team to advance to tonight's final.
Swampscott will play Wakefield, a 60-50 winner over host Peabody, in the championship game at 8 p.m.. Meanwhile, Peabody will take on Goffstown in the consolation game at 5 p.m.
"We had a quick start and good intensity," Swampscott (4-1) coach Paul Moran said after his team cruised to 46-28 halftime lead. "The two kids (Beaulieu and Rodenstein) were super. John was really something (with the 3-pointers). We had a good fastbreak and got some transition baskets, but we still have a long way to go as a team."
