The Rockport girls basketball team will not be going into the holiday break the way they would've like to.

That's because the Vikings happened to catch Amesbury on a night when the Indians played near-perfect basketball en route to a dominating 61-18 victory last night.

Amesbury seized an early lead and never looked back, outscoring Rockport 34-4 in the first half.

"Amesbury came out with pressure, and we have a very young team so we don't handle pressure very well," said Rockport head coach Steve O'Connor, whose team is now 1-3 on the season.

Forward Tia Nelson, who came into the contest averaging 16.7 points per game, had another solid game to lead the Vikings. The 5-foot-7 forward tallied 13 points and nine rebounds to account for most of the Rockport offense.

Meanwhile, junior Jess Dunn and sophomore Lyla Roth both played good floor games for the Vikings, adding some aggressive defense and rebounding.

"We played a strong third quarter," said O'Connor. "But after the third, we just fell apart again."

Rockport will have a lengthy break before its next contest, which will be on Jan. 4 at home against Cape Ann League power Masconomet.
