Londonderry coach John Fagula's status for Wednesday's Class L semifinal game against Manchester Central is still very much up in the air.

The 59-year-old coach, who is in his sixth year with the Lancers, collapsed with 1:16 left in Sunday's 37-35 quarterfinal game with Salem at Southern New Hampshire University. The fall broke his nose, but he was deemed otherwise fine when attended to by medical personnel. Fagula stayed on the bench for the game's remainder.

Afterwards, he was taken to nearby Elliot hospital for further testing, and was in high spirits.

"He went home (Sunday) night," said Londonderry athletic director Mike Kobilarcsik. "We spent some hours in the hospital. They brought him home after midnight."

Kobilarcsik said that though Fagula had not been cleared to coach yet, he did have a doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon. Following the game, Kobilarcsik said that he would not allow Fagula to coach without medical clearance.

Kobilarcsik noted that his understanding of the incident was that it was brought on by a combination of Fagula's diabetes medication and the food he had eaten that day. He also had triple bypass surgery in October. On top of that, the Lancers were hit with a nasty flu bug earlier this week.

"I'm sure it's a combination of a lot of factors," Kobilarcsik said.

Assistant coach Nick Theos would fill in if Fagula can't coach.
