Senior Ryan Freeman played his first match of organized volleyball ever and finished with 10 kills, five blocks and two aces to help Methuen sweep Winchester in its season opener last night.
Freeman had never played volleyball, instead focusing on basketball. But with his high school basketball career done, he wanted to try another sport.
And volleyball always had been something he had interest in from watching his sister Lea Freeman play the sport at Methuen and then at UMass Lowell.
After backyard practices with Lea and recreational games, Freeman decided to give volleyball a try.
Kyle Mansour added 10 kills and Zach Branchaud had 32 assists and 17 service points.
