Not too many people gave the Hamilton-Wenham boys basketball team a chance to beat Cape Ann League power Wilmington last night. However, the Generals believed in themselves and pulled off the upset.

Hamilton-Wenham trailed by 18 at halftime on the road but made a sensational comeback for a 60-57 win to improve to 6-4.

Hamilton-Wenham head coach Marty Binette had his team flying around in the second half. The Generals needed that sense of urgency to overcome the huge deficit.

"We picked it up defensively and got really aggressive on offense," said Binette.

Excellent play by the guards boosted the Generals. Freshman Michael Carter-Williams heated up and finished with 22 points for the Generals.

Junior guard Matt Greeke came up big down the stretch, netting six of his 10 points.

Binette and his squad knew how big this game was.

"It was a huge win for us," Binette said. "Wilmington is one of the better teams in the area and this was a really important one for us."

Another guard, sophomore James Rodriguez, also came up big for the winners with 17 points and senior center Tommy Drinkwater was a strong presence in the paint on both offense and defense. He pulled down 10 rebounds while adding three points.
