Methuen completed a banner holiday season for local wrestling teams by capturing the Framingham Tournament for the second straight year.

Led by New England finalists Christian Monserrat, Paul Sughrue and C.J. Doherty, all of whom were repeat champions, the Rangers finished with 223 points in the 21-team field, comfortably ahead of runner-up Cumberland, R.I. (199 1/2) and Framingham (192).

Monserrat (120) and Sughrue (132) both won for the second straight year despite wrestling up a weight class while Doherty (145) won for the third time. Monserrat and Sughrue won by decision in the finals while Doherty won by injury default after leading 3-1.

Also wrestling up a weight class and finishing second was senior Sarith Has, at 126, while Jack Khoury wrestled an outstanding tournament while taking third at 160. Seeded fifth, he lost a close match in the semifinals after leading by two points with 10 seconds remaining.

Joining Has with a silver medaal was 182-pound runner-up Scott DelRossi, who dropped his first match of the season in the finals.

Other placers for the Rangers were Mike Mouawad (fourth at 152), Anthony Andronaco (fifth at 138), Mike Golio (sixth at 195) and Paul Tomacchio (fifth at 220).

"It was a good tournament for us and overall I think we looked a little stronger than last year," said Methuen coach Bill James. "We had some tough losses with our younger kids, but we're getting better."
