HAMILTON — After struggling to run the ball against North Reading in the first half, Hamilton-Wenham made the necessary halftime adjustments and scored on its first two plays in the second half as the Generals prevailed 28-12 yesterday.

“They were ready to go (in the third quarter) and they took care of that side of our line and got to our linebackers,” said North Reading coach Jeff Wall. “And once they got to our linebackers, we were in trouble. We made the adjustments, unfortunately it was two touchdowns too late”

Generals QB Trevor Lyons (20 rushes for 259 yards) took the first two plays of the third quarter for touchdown runs of 76 and 60 yards to spark his squad, which is now 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in CAL/NEC Division 4 action. North Reading meanwhile dropped to 2-1 in league play and 5-3 overall.

The Generals were sluggish in the early goings on the field. After forcing a three and out, North Reading found paydirt on a 41-yard direct snap to fullback Ryan Sanborn.

But for the rest of the game, the Hornets managed just 82 rushing yards. North Reading’s other score was on a halfback pass by Carl Lipani that found the sure hands of Charles McCarthy for a 60-yard touchdown strike.
