ANDOVER — Dina Hagigeorges' two-run single helped spark Andover softball to its first victory of the season, a 5-1 win over Haverhill yesterday afternoon.
"We are getting our hits at the right time," said Golden Warriors (1-1) coach Steve Tisbert. "We have managed some timely hitting and playing very well on the defensive end."
Andover grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first. After a pair of players reached on errors, Shannon Tully gave her squad the lead with an RBI single.
Hagigeorges added to that advantage in the third. With two runners on, she blasted a single to left field to plate a pair. Meaghan Leary and Molly Awiszus each scored a pair of runs for the Warriors, while Taylor Farris also crossed the plate for Andover.
Jen Powers was the winning pitcher, working six innings, striking out four and not allowing a run. Farris closed out the game on the mound. Jordan Day added stellar defense at third and Tully excelled behind the plate.
"We played a really good game," said Tisbert. "I feel like we've turned a corner (from last season) and we have seen some really good things."
