Marblehead's Callahan named NEC MVP

Senior standout Taylor Callahan of Marblehead was named Most Valuable Player of the Northeastern Conference in field hockey yesterday as the conference coaches selected their annual all-star team.

Callahan, who has scored 10 goals this season, was joined on the team by three of her Marblehead teammates: seniors Tori Snow, Courtney Colantuno and Michele Manley.

Beverly was represented by senior Beth Cullen and juniors Meg Finn and Hayley Govoni. In addition, Panthers head coach Tricia Brennan, who took over the team in midseason, was named NEC Coach the Year.

Seniors Stephanie Costas and Jamie Leonard were chosen from Danvers, which was given the Team Sportsmanship Award. A trio of juniors, Ashley Felton, Cara Buckley and Madeline Lutts, were Salem's all-star selections. Seniors Tawny Palmieri and Sam Terenzoni were picked from Peabody, while senior Stephanie Lannon and sophomore Alex Wilson were the choices from Swampscott.

Other NEC all-stars included junior Kathryn Lacroix and seniors Ali Kippen and Jillian Lukegord of Gloucester; seniors Rebecca DeAngelo and Amanda Morash of Revere; and seniors Haley Erickson, Caitlin Sweeney and Gia Troisi of Saugus.
