When Pentucket junior Tess Nogueira went down with an injury in their game at Whittier, the Sachems knew that they would have to call upon their bench to take a bigger role than they are used to. The reserves didn’t miss a beat however as Pentucket defeated Whittier, 53-46 on Sunday afternoon.

Finally catching up

Whittier trailed for most of the game until Andrea Terranova scored with just a minute to play.  Her basket put the Wildcats up by one (52-51) and a defensive stop and two free throws later, Whittier earned a 54-51 win over Shawsheen - in a battle of two CAC undefeated teams.  Terranova and Catherine Roche each had 12 points and Christina Medley led Whittier 16. Michaela Martin came up with a game-saving block in the final seconds to secure the win.

Overtime win

 

 

Whittier Tech's girls rallied from a 29-15 halftime hole to tie the game in regulation on two Christina Medley free throws with four seconds left and then poured it on in overtime to beat Division 1 Brockton, 67-61. Kendra Brasil scored six of her 10 points in overtime while Catherine Roche led the unbeaten Wildcats (7-0) with 14 points, one more than Medley.

Frosh shine

 

 

Whittier Tech's girls got off to a rousing start, whipping Northeast 59-19, with freshmen leading the way.  Freshman Kayla Riley had three 3-pointers and 13 points and classmates Andrea Terranova and Michaela Martin both scored eight points. Another frosh, 6-foot-4 Samnell VonLeh, had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in one half.
