Seniors shine for injury plagued Andover

ANDOVER — Andover’s Katie and Emily Shields grimaced together while having their knees tended to on the trainer’s cart. Both girls went down with lower leg injuries in the final minute of yesterday’s 9-6 win over North Andover, with sophomore Katie sustaining a knee injury that coach John McVeigh said “looked pretty bad.”

Impressive tuneup

North Andover's girls tuned up for tomorrow's big game at Andover with an impressive 14-6 win over Billerica. Brianna Connolly led the way foor the 7-1 Knights with goals and Nicole Zahoruiko and Jenna Armstrong had three apiece.

Triton had a tough time scoring against North Andover's terrific goalie Stephanie Taylor, who had 13 saves. Coach Stacey Beaulieu said the Vikings played a great all-around game, but just could not find the scoring touch.

Stephanie Taylor had her best game of the young season, making 13 saves to lead North Andover past Triton, 13-3. Caroline Barclay led the way with three goals and an assist, and Emily Vento chipped in a hat trick.

Jenn Pino had a big game with eight points (six goals, two assists) as North Andover trounced Ipswich, 15-4. Bri Connolly and Emily Vento each had three goals apiece, and Stephanie Taylor made nine saves to help the Knights remain perfect.

Knights knock off Newburyport

Caroline Barclay netted a game-high four goals and Katie Kleinendorst recorded eight total points (three goals, five assists) as North Andover topped Newburyport 19-7. Jenn Pino and Jenna Armstrong also chipped in three goals apiece, and Stephanie Taylor nabbed seven saves.

Playing against the best team in the CAL, coach Catherine Batchelder was very pleased with Newburyport's performance despite the loss, especialy on defense.

Molly Scully had two goals for the Clippers, and Laura Fallon, Amy Reynolds, Haley Johnson, and Chelsea Roberts each had one goal for Newburyport. Chloe Hundertmark had a goal and three assists, and Lilly Galzerano had eight saves for the Clippers.
