Defense wasn't enough

Andover's defense held Lowell to just 42 points but its own offense couldn't score anymore than 32 and the Golden Warriors fell to the Red Raiders. Andover forced 30 Lowell turnovers but they couldn't convert from the field (20%) or from the free throw line (just 2 of 10). Natalie Gomez-Martinez scored 15 for the Golden Warriors.

Astros topple Andover

METHUEN — At 5-foot-9, Jill Johnston is the closest thing Pinkerton has to a center. But what the senior lacks in size she makes up for in determination.

Her grit was on display last night. She scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Astros to a 70-57 victory over Andover in the first round of the Greater Lawrence Girls Christmas Tournament.

Boudreau's big night

The Andover girls basketball team crushed Haverhill, 89-29. Freshman Nicole Boudreau went off on the Hillies, going 8-of-9 from beyond the arc en route to a 26-point night. The last area girls basketball player to accomplish the feat was Andover's Meghan Thomann, who hit nine threes in a game against Lowell in 2005-06. Fellow Golden Warriors Alex Alois (12 points) and Alicia Scarpa (12 points, two 3-pointers) were key in the victory, as well. Kelsey Garvey led Haverhill scorers with 14 points.

What a debut!

Andover freshman Nicole Boudreau scored 27 points in her first high school game to lead the Golden Warriors past Tewksbury, 65-38.
