Jason Steele blew away the field as his 2-under par performance led to 40 points and a 165-112 victory by Pentucket over North Andover. John Boyle came the closest to Steele as the Scarlet Knights' top scorer with 31 points. Sachem Ryan Swanson was next in line with 30 points.

Tovey soars for Raiders

Nick Tovey owned the second hole at Atkinson CC yesterday, shooting an eagle as part of a 1-under par 35 in Central Catholic's 14-6 victory over Chelmsford.

Tovey, who was medalist on the day, ripped a fairway 3-wood to within 15 feet of the hole and sank the putt for his first eagle of the season.

North Andover made the long trip to Rockport worthwhile with a convincing 153-148 victory. Dan Daley and Ross Boyle tied as high scorers for the Scarlet Knights (6-2) with 28 points with Bob Berman close behind with 26 points.

Pinkerton stays unbeaten

Pinkerton placed five of the top eight golfers and shot an impressive 4-over par 148 at Rochester CC to defeat Salem (155), Spaulding (160) and Goffstown (175). Mark Kissel (medalist 35), Dan Kish and Matt Newton (matching 37s) led the way for the unbeaten Astros (27-0). Ed Haroian was one stroke off Kissel's pace to lead the Blue Devils (24-3 with two losses to Pinkerton).

Central Catholic and Andover have been the two best golf teams in the Merrimack Valley Conference the past seven years. During the span, Central Catholic has won the conference three times and Andover has won it four times, including each of the past four years.
